Waiting Families Database

Hi!

We’re Lisa and Liat.

First of all, we want to thank you for taking a few minutes to try to get to know us. The fact that you’re even considering us, a same-sex couple, indicates that you’ve got a pretty open mind, which is something that we value and respect. We know how awful it can feel to have others judge you or the choices you’ve made. In fact, we really admire and respect the courage and compassion you’re showing with your decision to place your child with an adoptive family. We believe that placing your child for adoption is the ultimate act of caring and selflessness.

We also want to assure you that, should you decide to place your baby with our family, your child will be raised in a loving home—safe and healthy and secure—surrounded by family and friends…and the child will always know the story of how we became a family and how loving you were to make that choice.

Lisa & Liat

We met seven years ago at work and have been a couple for six years. We had a commitment ceremony in 2003 on a beach with some close friends and then were legally married in Canada in 2004. Our relationship is built on a firm foundation of love, honesty, caring, mutual respect, and open communication. We love being with each other and have a lot of fun together too. We often laugh so hard that we are both in tears!

Lisa’s family lives in Pennsylvania, while Liat’s family is local. Both of our families are excited to have a new addition to the family. Liat’s parents and family will have frequent contact with the new baby. Lisa’s family will see us a few times each year for holiday get-togethers.

Where We Live

We live in a four-bedroom house across the street from an elementary school in a quiet suburban neighborhood. We have a nice sized back yard (about .25 acre) in which we’d like to have a swing set and other fun things for a child.

We have a sweet seven-year-old cat named Phoebe, who likes to snuggle with people.

Our neighborhood is racially and culturally diverse and has lots of children. We are close to many shopping areas and have a community pool and recreation center within walking distance of our house. Our neighborhood is in an excellent school system (our district was rated as one of the top districts in the country!).

Lisa

Lisa has her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and is an administrator for a program for people with mental illness. Lisa has many interests including working with computers, reading, orienteering, and sign language. She is sweet, honest, kind, and has lots of patience. She looks forward to reading to our child every night, helping them with homework, playing, and vacationing with our child.

Liat

Liat has a Master’s degree in Social Work, and she works with people with disabilities. She has traveled extensively and really likes meeting new people. She loves animals and enjoys nurturing friendships. She is warm, caring, and thoughtful. She looks forward to snuggling with our child, helping our child to explore his or her interests and the world around them, and watching our child laugh.

Open Adoption

If you should desire a relatively open adoption, we are amenable. We are open to at least one visit per year with the child, providing cards & letters, and having open email communication (provided it is all done in the safest way for the child) with you. We could also have less contact if that is more comfortable for you. Regardless of your choice of degree of openness, our child will know where (s)he came from and know that his/her first mother made a very loving choice.

We have wanted a child for a long time. We want to give our child financial and educational opportunities & lots & lots of love. We attempted to get pregnant for over a year through fertility treatments and had painful physical complications as a result. When it was clear that fertility treatments didn’t work, we realized that adoption would give us another chance to have the family we have always wanted. We are so excited to adopt!

Thank you again for considering placing your baby with us. We wish you the best whatever you decide. We know this is a very difficult time for you.

Sincerely,
Lisa and Liat
