BBAF Initiatives

Project “If Not Us” is a BBAF recruitment and retention initiative. Project “If Not Us” is made up of a council of concerned adoptive families, clergy, congressmen/women and adoption professionals that assist in guiding families through the adoption process. The Project “If Not Us” council, also known as “INU council,” performs ongoing media outreach, events and informational meetings in the African American community to encourage adoption. Once a family applies to adopt through Adoptions Together, members of the INU council support the family through their adoption process by connecting the family with mentoring, counseling, training and ongoing support services unique to adopting an African American child.

If you are considering adopting an African American child, please contact Kamilah Bunn, Chair of the INU Council, at 301-439-2900 or please attend our next Community Informational meeting.

Community Informational meetings:

These hour-long educational seminar introduce families to the steps in the adoption process and confront myths by having an actual real adoptive family present to share their experiences adopting. Won’t you join us? Please call Kamilah Bunn at 301-439-2900 to RSVP.
