Work of Heart Respite Program

Work of Heart Volunteer Respite Program

Welcome to Adoptions Together Work of Heart Volunteer Respite Program! This program was developed in cooperation with the Foster and Adoptive Parent Advocacy Center (FAPAC) and was formerly managed by the Council of Governments.

As with all parents, foster parents need a break every now and then, too! Often these breaks can be the difference between a successful foster care placement and one that ends in another move for the child. There are many reasons children need to live with foster families or adoptive families. They may be victims of physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse; neglect; poverty; and/or abandonment. Their parents may be unable to care for them because of their own disabilities, illness, or inability to provide for the child's special needs. There are currently 6,000 children and youth in foster care in the metropolitan area, and the numbers are increasing.

Super Saturday Respite

Are you a CFSA foster parent who needs a break? Even for just a day? Adoptions Together is sponsoring the Work of Heart Respite Care Program for CFSA foster parents. The Work of Heart Respite Care Program sponsors free monthly respite “Super Saturdays” that allow CFSA foster parents the opportunity to leave their foster children with trained social workers, foster parents and volunteers for a day. Children and youth from ages 3—21 will have a fun day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.!

Respite Super Saturdays are the first Saturday of the month at:
