Trauma & Sexualized Behavior in Children & Adolescents

Many questions can arise when you are raising a child who has been traumatized from abuse/neglect and then begins to act out sexually. For one, how do you know what is "normal" developmentally and what is abnormal sexual behavior? How and when should you bring this up to professionals or friends and family? Are you totally powerless in keeping your child and your family safe? This interactive workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of typical vs. atypical sexual development and behavior in children and teens. Participants will gain a better understanding of how early drug exposure and/or abuse impact sexual development. Lunch will be served. 3 CEUs.

This will help you gain a better understanding of what your client is taking and how to help caretakers understand the drugs and effects. 2 education hours/CEUs.

Ethics & Attachment: A Meaningful Relationship

This workshop will provide the opportunity for an indepth discussion about the ethical considerations that are specific to attachment-related work with traumatized children. Many of the children and young adults who are treated for attachment-related issues have survived unspeakable amounts of trauma in their young lives. The effects of both trauma and attachment disorders can be expressed by boundary testing, inappropriate or provocative interpersonal behavior, and the need to be in control. Therefore, it is very important that clinicians have a sound sense of their personal and professional ethics when treating this population. 3 CEUs.
